Andrew Fieldsend-Roxborough Selected for Redditch Constituency

9 Feb 2024

Redditch resident and campaigner, Andrew Fieldsend-Roxborough has been selected by the Liberal Democrats to be their candidate for the upcoming General Election

Speaking of his selection, Andrew said ‘It is an honour to be given this opportunity to put forward a positive liberal vision for Redditch. I am frustrated with the politics of division that we have seen over the last few years and that needs to stop. I promise to bring a more inclusive politics to Redditch and I hope that the people of Redditch and the Villages will feel that I am the best person to represent them in Westminster. I am looking forward to serving the community that has welcomed me and made me feel so at home for the last nine years.’

Talking of his priorities, Andrew is clear that the environment, the cost of living and the state of the NHS all need urgent attention:

‘The biggest issue we all face is the threat of climate change, and we should be doing everything we can to achieve net zero by 2045. Whilst the Conservatives have shelved their commitments to address climate change and Labour have walked away from their commitment to fund green investments, the Liberal Democrats are unashamedly standing by our Fair Deal for the Environment that will put the environment and green economy at the heart of what we do.’

‘The cost of living is having a huge impact on the lives of the people of Redditch and the Villages. Mortgage rates are through the roof, the price of everyday foods is going up weekly. The Conservatives have crashed the economy and have resorted to offeringgimmicky tax cuts to try to cling on to power. Labour on the other hand is flipflopping on policy left, right and centre it’s impossible to know what they stand for or what they will do to address the issues people face. The Liberal Democrats have a clear strategy for growing the easing the pressures on families and growing the economy including a promise to go after tax avoiders that have deprived the country of billions of pounds over the last decade, money that could well have been spent on things like health, education and social care’.

‘Our health and social care systems are in crisis. It is a scandal that over 7 million people in the UK are waiting for NHS treatment, that mental health services are past breaking point, and that our dental services have been left to decay. The conservatives have broken the NHS and maternity services have still not returned to the Alex. I will fight tooth and nail to ensure that NHS services in Redditch are bought back up to where they need to be.

On the need for a Liberal Democrat MP for Redditch and the Villages, Andrew said ‘We’ve had a Conservative MP who has been party to some of the most divisive politics in my lifetime and who has voted in favour of some truly awful laws. Labour will tell you that they are the obvious alternative but quite frankly, it can be difficult to differentiate them from the Conservatives.’

‘Redditch is a diverse town that deserves an MP that will represent all those who live here, openly and fairly. Redditch needs a Liberal voice and I hope people will give me the chance to show them just what a Liberal Democrat MP will do for all the communities that make up our wonderful town and villages.’

Andrew lives in Redditch with his wife and works as an engineer for National Grid.
